Is 'Knuckleheads' A Racist Term?...

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Looting and vandalism that broke out in the aftermath of the Los Angeles Lakers' basketball championship won't keep the city from celebrating the team's victory: City officials and the Lakers are planning a victory parade they hope will overshadow unrest the police chief blames on a mob of "knuckleheads."

Races in Los Angeles:

  • Hispanic (46.5%)
  • White Non-Hispanic (29.7%)
  • Other race (25.7%)
  • Black (11.2%)
  • Two or more races (5.2%)
  • Filipino (2.7%)
  • Korean (2.5%)
  • Chinese (1.7%)
  • American Indian (1.4%)
  • Japanese (1.0%)
  • Other Asian (0.9%)
  • Asian Indian (0.7%)
  • Vietnamese (0.5%)
(Total can be greater than 100% because Hispanics could be counted in other races)

And as "white" (as it is used by the census) includes Arabs, Jews, Iranians, Turks and others the actual percentage of White people in LA is probably around 15%.

It's always interesting to see the new and creative ways our society redefines non-Whites in a way that obfuscates the issue of race and behavior.

It is similar to how when a non-White person meets a tragic end it is a moment of national mourning and reflection. Yet if a White person is attacked and murdered by a non-White the media and law enforcement always describe the victim as just "having been in the wrong place at the wrong time". It doesn't matter if they were walking down the street, standing in their front yard or just getting out of the shower, the White victim (of the always "random" crime) is always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
