Trust in news media has reached a new low, with record numbers of Americans saying reporting is inaccurate, biased and shaped by special interests, according to a survey set to be released Monday.

What does that even mean?
You might ask about whether or not someone has trust in the idea of news media, or specific kinds of media, but not of the news media itself as though it were an entity. (the same goes for government)
I mean really, if you think about it, the presupposition sets up a false paradigm that reveals a tragic cultural construct in which there is an expectancy that a thing (the media in this case) is held to be either universally good or universally bad.
Or to unpack that, the poll should have asked the question, "do you have trust in your ability to sift through the various and often contradictory bits of information the media disseminates and come to a personal conclusion on any given subject?"
Otherwise the poll might as well have asked, "are you happy not thinking for yourself?"
