In The "Take A Wild Guess" Category...

The following exam may determine the likelihood that you will be the victim of a future crime.
Houston police have been trying to track down a wedding party member who allegedly pulled a gun at the reception and started shooting.

Everything went off without a hitch, police said, until the best man decided to rob the DJ.

"He steps back, takes it [the gun] and then shoots it in the air," said Kendrick Shepherd, the wedding DJ. "And then comes and pushes me, grabs it and runs out the door and I’m like, did that just happen?"

Shepherd said the suspect grabbed an expensive crystal decanter full of liquor and fled.

Summary profile of suspect;

The best man at a wedding.
Brings gun to a wedding.
Robs the wedding party DJ.
Grabs a bottle of liquor as he makes his getaway.

Based on the above, would you guess the perpetrator to be,

a) A middle-aged WASPy businessman.

b) A twenty-something Irish-American computer programmer.

c) A black guy.

d) An Elderly White woman

If you did not automatically assume c) A black guy, the odds of you being the victim of a future crime are greatly increased.

Is that a stereotype?

But then, another phrasing for stereotyping is, Pattern Recognition.
